Job Description:

The Associate Music Director assists the Music Director with many facets of this non-sectarian, non-audition community chorus. Before COVID the chorus was 90 members strong, and we expect it to rebound. Currently we rehearse as best we can on Zoom. Chorus members come from all walks of our community. Most do not read music, some are tonally challenged. It is, however, a warm, committed, and enthusiastic group.

Responsibilities include:

Accompanies chorus on all regular rehearsals (every Monday evening), as well as occasional extra rehearsals. Must be versatile with all many styles: classical, pop, rock, jazz.

Assists Music Director in conceptualizing, researching, and planning program themes and music for twice yearly concerts, working about 1-1/2 years in advance; helps coordinate all elements of program (inc. soloists and audience singing) for two 1.5 hour performances.

Accompanies concerts.

Assists at rehearsals with details such as ensemble balance, tempi, dynamics, articulation, blend, as well as troubleshooting vocal & technical difficulties.

Helps with preparation of rehearsal tracks twice yearly.

Leads rehearsals on occasional absence of Music Director.

May help with special projects, such as preparation and recording of “virtual chorus” videos, chorus member cabaret and other fund raising efforts.

OTHER USEFUL AREAS OF EXPERTISE: It would be a plus to be able to do any of the following: play pipe organ; play simple percussion instruments; make arrangements.
